Brief Description:  Rod/cam interference

Got to the point of finishing installation the cylinders and shims and developed an interference problem when turning the crank.

Had to split the case to determine the cause and found the #1 rod end cap would touch the center camshaft journal when the crank was all the way forward and the rod was forward on the journal. This occured when the crank was in the position where the cam/crank gears align for timing.

Reluctantly shaved a very small amount of material off the rod end cap to eliminate the interference.

As mentioned in Steve Bennett's VW Webinar, best to assemble the entire engine and check everything for fit then take it apart and put it together with the various sealants.
